It’s not easy to experience proper high-adrenaline activities in winter. Most extreme activities, such as skydiving, outdoor adventure parks and others, are only open in the summer season. Then a little boredom sets in during winter. Mind you, that’s not the case in and around Liberec!
Here at Liberec, we have a climbing wall called Hanibal. It was not named after the fictional cannibal Hannibal Lecter, but rather after the Carthaginian general Hannibal, who led his army across the Pyrenees and Alps – as this place looks exactly like the Alps. Located in central Liberec, the wall has the largest area in central Europe that has been artificially covered with ice. It’s 28 metres tall! But only when it’s freezing! Here you can have a go at ice climbing using an ice axe, which is quite an exhilarating experience by itself. The climbing is done under the supervision of experienced climbers, and it’s so safe that it is also suitable for children who meet the minimum height requirement of 120 cm.
We can offer snow tubing at Špindlerův Mlýn or at the U Vodárny Ski Resort in Bedřichov to those Liberec Region visitors who prefer more comfort. You can settle down comfortably into one of the gigantic air-filled doughnuts, and we’ll give you a push down the slope. You’ll slide down a safe track and are guaranteed to have a lot of fun. There is a choice of three lanes – from the slowest lane for young children to the whizz-down lane for adrenaline junkies. They also have a brand-new snow attraction here – snow scooters – special vehicles which you can take on a ski lift, go down a slope and do turns with. It’s equipped with a foot brake. Are you up for it? The Happy World Bobsleigh Run in Harrachov is exceptionally popular, too, and is also open in winter, thanks to being heated along the entire length of the track. It’s one of the most popular trip destinations in the region.
You can race down the sledging tracks at Špindlerův Mlýn and Janské Lázně, or at Černá Studnice, which was only ‘built’ last year. Despite that, it’s already become very popular with both young and adult visitors since it opened. This is hardly surprising, as on top of that, you can get tasty warm refreshments in the chalet at the lookout tower, or get some exercise by going up Černá Studnice – one of the most beautiful lookout towers in the Jizera Mountains, built between 1904 and 1905.
