The television cameras also know the best places to go for a trip!

We’re approaching behind half of the summer holidays. And we’ve hardly had time to go for a swim. And as the weather is not ideal for spending time by the pool, pond or lake, we have to think up other fun things to do. The TV weather forecasters are predicting more weeks of rain, so we shouldn’t be ashamed that we want to spend time under a fluffy blanket with a hot cocoa in hand, watching a good show on the box. And we’ve got several of these to recommend to you.

Slowly but surely, we’re approaching the second half of the summer holidays. We know, time really flies! And we’ve got several of these to recommend to you, as when we can’t do any real travelling, let’s at least enjoy a virtual look at the region.

One place you can get find tips for fun places to visit is Loskuták na výletě (Loskuták on a Trip). Right at the start we join him for a trip to Tolštejn castle – or rather the ruins of this mediaeval castle. And as Loskuták found out, from the summit, which is reached via an iron staircase, there is a lovely view of the Lusatian Mountains and down into the valley towards Jiřetín, Horní and Dolní Podluží and Varnsdorf, beyond which the peaks of the Lusatian Highlands and Lusatia loom on the horizon. Loskuták’s travels also naturally included a trip to Krásná Lípa, which lives up to its name. One attraction is the building housing an exhibition on Bohemian Switzerland. This interactive exhibition will appeal to anyone yearning to discover the landscape of Bohemian Switzerland with all their senses. Now, however, it’s time to board the train and head to Nový Bor – known most of all for the Novotný Glass glassmaking complex. And those who take a look with us already know what time to get there in order to try blowing glass for ourselves. Thanks for the great tips, Loskuták!

Lukáš Hejlík has long been travelling around the meadows of Bohemia and Moravian groves. And his Lukáš Hejlík’s Gastromap project is legendary by now! This year he invites us to visit the best gastronomy scenes in the Czech Republic, and the first place he has chosen, rightly so, is Liberec. Not just because Liberec is the love of his life, but also as it is a literal Mecca for great coffee, ice creams, and other excellent food and drink. So let’s join Lukáš and eat our way around the capital of the north in his show Kudy, foodie? (Where to go, foodie?) We’ll also be taking in places such as DOK Liberec, Jedno Kafe, Bistro Široká and the ever popular Leda Ice Cream Parlour. And, you’ll also find a few places there that we recommend seeing in Liberec! Have you heard about the Forest Outdoor Swimming Pool, for example?

The week from 21st to 25th June was then devoted to our region in the north on the airwaves of radio Evropa 2. Not only were listeners able to compete to win some great stays in all tourist destinations, but they could also hear some cool tips for trips and find out why they should take a holiday below Ještěd in summer 2021. Of course, that’s only if our reason, that Ještěd is simply magical, were not enough for you.

And what shows can we look forward to seeing in autumn? History lovers in particular will enjoy the Czech Television series of documentaries, which will present some literally hidden gems. In the Liberec Region actor Jaroslav Plesl takes a look at Grabštejn castle in the Lusatian Mountains. The show is entitled Neobjevené skvosty (Undiscovered Gems) and we’ll be able to watch it together soon. The cameras and spotlights will stay focused on our region, as an extensive series of interesting shows is currently being prepared. As an example, we can tell you that Aleš Háma will be heading over our way with his motor home in the second series of the show Karavanem po Česku (Around Bohemia by Caravan). Alena Zárybnická will then be showcasing the phenomenon of climbing in the Bohemian Paradise, while Josef Polášek takes a wander around the region’s pubs and breweries, and Martin Kraus will be riding through some beautiful places on horseback. All these shows are being prepared and partially funded in collaboration with the Liberec Region tourism department.

Anyone wanting a refresher on the shows we recommended last time, here they are: we headed off together in search of the beautiful sights of the Liberec Region, Lake Mácha and the surrounding area in the show Českem nejen za sportem (Through Bohemia in Search of Sport and More), and were treated to a real dose of adrenalin by presenter Jiří Hölzel and sportsman Teodor Kováč, who took to their bikes and set off to explore the Lusatian Mountains in the show Po trailech přes hory (Along Trails through the Mountains).

And one last tip for all Instafans. A number of influencer and press trips will also be taking place this summer. Our beautiful region has been visited by the Instagrammers Natálie Tolarová, Anna Kadeřávková and Anna Šulcová, as well as the photographer Jan Řeháček. So, power up those phones and get some tips, which you can find on their social networks. And you can find more, from us, on our Facebook and Instagram, where we’re listed under Region Liberec! But, now let’s switch on the telly, put our feet up, and enjoy some inspiration!
