Autumn in the Liberec Region

The unpredictable weather of autumn brings does not necessarily mean the end of the tourist season; just the opposite, in fact. As the well-known Norwegian saying goes: “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes”. The Liberec Region offers plenty of things to do, whether it’s raining outside or a beautiful sunny afternoon. Read on for a few tips on where to take the family and children during this pretty and colourful season.

When it’s cold and rainy, your best options are the entertainment complexes right in the very heart of Liberec. IQ Landia, a fun family centre, offers four floors of interactive exhibits that let children and adults alike get their logical skills into gear through a series of games and experiments and enjoy a pleasurable afternoon with the family. Just across the road from there you’ll find the Centrum Babylon Liberec – a congress and hotel centre, but, most importantly for us, an important entertainment complex, which offers a number of great attractions including an aquapark with four water slides, and lots more. Then, the Plaza shopping centre on Šaldovo náměstí is home to the only indoor Dinopark in the Czech Republic, which has been open since 2012 and features more than 70 prehistoric dinosaur models. The Dinopark’s main attraction is the Time Tunnel, presenting the history of the Earth from 65 million years ago. It also has a palaeontology playground, a robotic model of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a 4D cinema.

Weather permitting, you could take your kids to Harrachov, which offers lots of attractions and fun for children and adults alike. The Happy World bobsled track is unique with its mountain lagoon, which you hurtle past every time you go round the last bend of the track. It also has a rope Monkey Park, where the children can romp around on the 29 obstacles. Children have to be over 140 cm tall to enter the rope park, but no need to worry, as they’ve also given a thought to the little ones and have set up a less challenging rope playground, which is free. You can also take your children to see the famous Mumlava Waterfalls. Roughly halfway along the blue route a special Fox Nature Trail has been created for the kids. The trail has 8 stops at which your children can learn some interesting information about foxes, and also have to get over one of the fun fox obstacles. This all lets you spend a laid- back afternoon strolling through the colours of the autumn countryside and getting a breath of fresh air. Although there is a bistro near the waterfalls, don’t forget to pack yourself a good snack to take along. And if you want to give your kids a little more exercise, you can take the cable car up to Čertova hora and then ride back down on hired scooters.
