The Lusatian Mountains are famous for their glassmaking. So, we present some places where you can find out more about the work of our master glassmakers. First, we take you to Kunratice u Cvikova, where one of our most famous glass artists has his glassworks, and where you can not only view is works but also try to make something yourself. Know who we’re talking about? Jiří Pačinek, who creates some incredible pieces using the traditional Czech technique of blowing and shaping glass by hand. By the glassworks you’re sure to love the Glass Garden, full of flowers and plants, all made from glass, and don’t miss the Crystal Temple. That’s a sight well worth seeing!

We’ve also got something for children and their parents. An adventure game has been set up by Panská skála rock, with whom other than the Proud Princess. The route is not very long, following the blue markers from Panská skála to the transmitter on Klučky hill, and has 10 stops. There are tasks to complete at each stop, and if you manage them, you can claim a small reward at the information centre.

Spring is the perfect season for walks and the Lusatian Mountains have lots of important Stations of the Cross routes to take. One of the most well-known can be found in Jiřetín pod Jedlovou. The pilgrimage place on Křížová hora above the village dates back to the 18th century and is associated with a legend about a miraculous cross. You can admire 11 little chapels, and the Chapel of the Ascension of the Holy Cross with its Baroque tower and clock, where the 12th and 13th stops are situated. The 14th and last stop is in the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre. This place, with its unique atmosphere and imposing Stations of the Cross has also been popular with filmmakers, with some scenes from the movie “May” shot here. Another beautiful Stations of the Cross in a linden alley can be found at the Calvary near Cvikov, a hill sometimes known as Lískový or Křížový hill. You can get to the Calvary and other interesting places around Cvikov following the Green Circuit. You’ll see a forest theatre, the Schiller viewpoint, the Švýcárna viewpoint and the Hollow Stone.

 

As we’ve already been to Jiřetín pod Jedlovou, we’ll also take you to the nearby Jedlová lookout tower. Jedlová is the third highest peak in the Lusatian Mountains and from the top you really can see the peaks of the Ore Mountains, the Bohemian Paradise, and even the Giant Mountains. For another lovely view you can climb up to “Popovka” – the Popov rock viewpoint, which is 3.5 km to the southwest of Hrádek nad Nisou. It’s also worth mentioning the lookout tower on Stráž hill, which was built in 2011. If you climb right up to the top of the wooden lookout tower via the metal staircase, you’ll see the Sloup valley, Nový Bor and the whole of the Lusatian Mountains.

And now something new for the children. For the smallest visitors Grabštejn castle and chateau has prepared a special treasure hunt, where they can use lost keys try to find a chest full of money. But that’s not the only new attraction at Grabštejn. You can also now see its Africa exhibition, and you won’t find another one like it.
